★ This was one of the books in my GR's book of the month in March 2011. I read this and honestly, it shows a bad side of BDSM that I'm not thrilled with...at all. It comes across as those in the BDSM are callous sociopaths who can easily kill a person w/o a problem. It perverts and twists a lifestyle into a horrible lie. I'm very disappointed in this book and don't recommend it to anyone.
I would like to point out, Ms. Reese possesses an excellent writing style. She also wrote a very good mystery story. As a writer, this book would receive great reviews. She is an excellent story teller and her sex scenes would have been fine, had she not twisted it up with a murderer.
I feel dirty after reading this book. Ms. Reese takes the BDSM lifestyle and perverts it into a demonic sadistic sham for Vanilla people to nod their heads and say, "I KNEW these people were mentally ill. Look at this. This is so wrong." The sense of unease after reading this book is so great, I want to wipe it from my mind. I would like to state, none of the humiliation or sex acts bothered me. Even the bestiality was fine. It's how Ms. Reese made it dirty and disgusting which caused me to be disappointed and ill at ease.
I will not be reading anymore of Ms. Reese's books. I see her second one is yet another distortion and misrepresentation of the BDSM lifestyle. I do not recommend this book to anyone.
