I choose the bear. Matthias is a large bear shifter who has been trying his best not scare away his fated mate, Maisy. He has done such a great job that Maisy thinks Matthias cannot stand her. I enjoyed this sweet read and dived into this second book with zero issues catching up.
What I enjoy about Renee Rose books is that the characters are realistic. Yes, even if they are a shifter. None of them are perfect. They all have flaws that make them more human and relatable. Maisy is the one who is oft overlooked because her grandmother and best friend are such loud personalities. Does this matter when the perfect match for her is Matthias?
Matthias doth protests too much. He struggles to communicate with Maisy because to him, she is too young. There is some truth to this but since I am now older than both these characters, I find Matthias' issues to be a bit too contrived. Regardless, his intent was well intentioned; his execution to secure is mate is lacking.
This new series with bear shifters in this roughed mountain appeals for me. Especially as these are brothers who were brought together by a courageous woman. I want to learn more about her and Matthias' brothers.
The romance part of this story is closer to a chick flick comedy. It isn't intentionally funny yet there are times the situations the characters find themselves caused me to chortle out loud. This is romance so we do end in a sweet happily ever after. This book can be read as a standalone. Recommended for paranormal readers who love a big teddy bear.
* I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
