Review: Burning Sea by Donna Grant


Anything water related and I am interested. In this latest edition of the Elven Kingdom, there is more corruption uncovered as well as secrets finally reviewed. I have been eagerly awaiting the story behind the ater elves. We finally enter into their fantastic under the sea world.


When it comes to creating mystical locations, Ms. Grant continues to come up with impressive places be it small, large, on land, or in the sea. I love the sea one. I love the Sea Elves and their world filled with wonder. What I don't like, is the isolationist attitude and why. I furthermore dislike the cliques designed to ostracize any who are "other".


Varum is a sea elf who is treated as other for completely inane reasons. Well, reasons that make no sense to me. This sets him up perfectly to match up with Kalyani. Whilst Kalyani is loved by her family and specifically protected by her brother, she does feel different. She is a bit wild and swimming in the water is her happy place. She is headstrong and heeds no one's warnings. When her path crosses Varum, it is explosive.


I enjoyed the pace of this story and the continuous reveals. What frustrates me is that by the end of the story, there are more questions about this world that I didn't even think of, when I started the book. Whilst the love story provides a happily ever after between these two opposing forces, the multi-book arc still seems to have no end in sight.
