In this latest installment of X-files like series, Adam's team finds a newly awaken psychic, Raina Hamish. Raina is shocked when she shops for a dress and ends up witnessing a brutal murder. This ability, known as psychometry - by reading an object touched by a person is not something Raina every heard of or knew about. She wants to help the police but who is going to believe her? For those new to this series, this is a good one to start with. This can be read as a standalone. Most of this series can be read as a standalone.
This story loosely revolves around the world of Adam Harrison who has a team of psychic detectives involved when homicides are outside the realm of the normal. Luckily for Raina who now looks like a suspect, Axel is able to support Raina as she works through her new found gift.
The serial killer in this story is brutal and abusive. For those who are a bit squeamish, there is a bit of gore involved. Ms. Graham creates a creepy killer who revels in slaying. The killer also enjoys taunting and terrifying their victim as well as Raina.
Raina is a strong character. She did not expect to be thrown into the deep end and help law enforcement who are skeptical about her powers. She herself questions it and does not want to explore it. Her fears and wanting to the right thing is what makes her an appealing character. And attractive to Axel. Whilst there is a bit of romantic element to each of these stories, I really prefer the suspense/thriller plot. Ms. Graham creates another chilling tale with the right amount of paranormal mixed in. This thriller is recommended to readers who like stepping outside the realm of reality.
