Review: The Coven by Harper L Woods

New adult stories are a mixed bag for me. This is written by Harper L. Woods who I do enjoy reading. When I see a new book in her name, I know I'm in for a sexy dark ride. She delivered in this one. Welcome to the world post a disastrous war. Witches need to be "taught" again. But will history repeat itself if the past truths have been buried? Book one of this series piques my interest and I want to continue on to see what happens.

Willow is attending the witch's academy against her will. She and the other "chosen" ones are in a place where bad things happen. This story is a blend of Wednesday and The Craft. Willow is a stubborn witch who is more powerful that many who have come before her. Gray... the "headmaster" of the academy is both brooding and mysterious. Are we surprised they are drawn together? Absolutely not. The two play with "fire" as they become involved. Nothing is as it seems. The witches council is filled with corruption. Who is evil who is not?

The plot of the story is easy to follow. There is a bit of the standard intrigue and backstabbing. Is this high fantasy with a character progression? Not really. This is more a coming of age book for both Willow's skills and her sexual awakening. This new adult romance is recommended to paranormal romance readers who find the Bad Boys irresistible.
