Sci-fi Action flick fans will thrill in the newest addition to the Section 47 series. We learn more about Desmond and Charlotte's history as key players from the past show up. We also are treated to Darling Daddy, Desmond's powerful father. No surprise that his father is arrogant and difficult. Charlotte has her hands full as she goes on a mission and it explodes.
Charlotte is a favourite of mine because she is the underdog. She is consistently under estimated and she treated poorly. In this latest one, she once again has to prove herself. It does not help that the Section 47 world is stacked against her and most of the power players are corrupt. There are so many things wrong with a covert agency that does not need to be held accountable. I understand the need for secrecy, but where is the balance? How is it that things that work under the radar tend to turn towards the darkside?
The main flashy villain in this story is Henrika. Definitely not a fan of hers. There are subplots within subplots with her dancing all around in it. This keeps the story moving and the action interesting. Charlotte and the reader barely has time to catch our breath. Whilst Charlotte is trying to fight crime, she is also trying to solve the mystery to her father's death. I love a good origin story. Charlotte's is filled with sacrifice and humiliation. Let's see how she can continue to withstand opportunities to turn dark.
Desmond continues to be the golden child, except in his father's eyes. His reptilian father is one that I would like to skewer and then study under a microscope. Desmond has answers he wants too. Unfortunately for both Charlotte and Desmond, all roads lead . . . to his father. This is what keeps me reading the series. Wanting to know the answer and following this maze of events that add layers upon layers to this world. I am a huge fan of Ms. Jennifer's world building. This series continues to pique my interest. Learning about the different abilities and seeing the spies on their missions thrills me.
This spy series is recommended to those who enjoy a touch of psychic twist to their suspense.
* I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
