Angst-filled right person wrong time stories pack a punch. In the second book of the Cage Family series, Isabella finally learns why Weston left her so many years ago. This book can be read as a standalone. After reading this one, I want to go back and pick up the first book in the series!
Big families can be complicated and chaotic. When a big family is created by the same man but different women and the siblings are just finding out about each other as adults, this is more than just complicated. Isabella is used to being the oldest in her family. She is used to working with what she has and doing what she can to support the family. With the onset of new older brothers who are clearly in a much higher socio-economic class, it can throw anyone for a loop.
I loved the set up of this story. Two families trying their best to blend together is not easy. To be under duress makes it much harder. Isabella is able to keep her siblings stable whilst navigating these new waters with her new brothers. It isn't easy but Isabella's never taken the easy way. As an accomplished accountant, her new family give her a chance to do more than what her father ever said she could achieve. Honestly, I feel for Isabella and if dear old dad hadn't already kicked the bucket, I'd be screaming for justice. Learning about Isabella and her painful past makes me cheer her on when she accomplishes what others do not believe she can do.
As she is trying to get her life back under control, the one man who moved her finds her when she least expected it. Weston. The reasons for Weston's departure are revealed as the story unfolds. It is sad and I do not see a way around this one. He could have done things differently but the way it turned out, it give both Isbella and Weston time to grow into who they are today. Their tentative courting dance is hesitant and adorable. These two are made for each other and the second chance they have together is beautiful. It is not a smooth ride and there are a few blasts from Isabella's past that try to tear them apart. I thoroughly enjoyed this story from start to finish. Ms. Ryan creates heartwarming family stories I love reading. Recommend for romance lovers who enjoy second chance romances that end in a happily ever after.
* I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
