Diving back into the Goddess with a Blade series is always a refreshing read. This urban fantasy gets better and better. Returning back to Rowan and her collection of super powered friends and allies, she continues to take on the Big Bad guys who come into her town. For those who have not read the previous books in this series, it is recommended to start at the beginning to get caught up.
Rowan's life is now a constant battle with fights both with words and with magic as she increase in influence and power. Her marrying Clive, another powerhouse, does not exactly protect her. One would think that Clive being the Vampire Scion of North America would mean that Rowan would be untouchable. It does not. It might if Rowan was a frail wilting flower in need of a big menacing protector. Instead, Rowan is that menacing protector with the power to back her up. I love that about Rowan.
This could be a girl boss story of a woman not needing a man and can be totally dependent upon herself. It is not. Instead, it's an action packed story with friends from all walks of life teaming up with Rowan to take out the latest threat. I like this about Lauren Dane's stories. Be it a male or female protagonist, they tend to be team players and bring out the best in their friends and allies. They are not rogue players. They could have the power to be a rogue force to be reckoned with, but instead, they lean more towards a community of like minded individuals. This is what brings be back to Ms. Dane's stories time and time again. I enjoy her character development as well as the character progression. The strong sexy men doesn't hurt either. This urbane fantasy is recommended to readers who like strong female leads who surrounds themselves with equality strong friends.
