Review: I'll Be Waiting by Kelley Armstrong

When it comes to spinning a riveting tale, Kelley Armstrong consistently delivers. As far as I'm concerned, she can write any genre and it would be so good. I love her writing style and the stories she weaves. In this standalone spooky one, I'll Be Waiting pulls me straight in and is a page turner.

The story starts out immediately tugging on my heart strings. Nicola overcame crippling physical obstacles and could have her happily ever after. Except, life intervenes. In a short chapter, Kelley Armstrong has me vested in Nicola's story. To be devastated in such a manner could have completely destroyed Nicola. She's a survivor. This is at the heart of what I love about Kelley Armstrong's characters. They are all survivors. Bad things happen and they work through it. They don't suppress it or play the victim. They don't let it be the only defining moment in their life. If only the rest of the world would work in this manner. Unfortunately for Nicola, a very private moment is exploited and becomes the manufactured defining moment in her life, whether she consents or not.

This story goes through life after the happily ever after. I love see and exploring this concept. It does take a dark turn that makes me question what kind of genre did I pick up? I was a bit unprepared but that is on me because I didn't read the blurb. Kelley Armstrong books are an automatic read for me. I go in cold and hang on for a wild ride. This one is a fun one. Recommended to readers who like a bit of the supernatural crossing over.
