Review: Queen of Dreams by Kit Rocha

Fantastic follow up to book one, Queen of Dreams delivers punch after punch to Sachi and Zanya. This tale is filled with betrayal, subterfuge and power hungry madness. What I liked about this story is that it may come across as black and white with evil villains but no one is purely good nor purely evil. There are subplots within subplots of this tale.

What happens when a golden child is reviled? What happens when up is down and down is up? What happens when marketing and "media" make what we know to be good and true to come across as traitorous and evil? This heavy concepts are folded into the conclusion of this duology. For young lovers/friends they navigate a treacherous world that is at the precipice of destruction. I love these grand epic quests where the world is hanging by a thread. Unlikely heroes (heroines) arise and have to meet each challenge to save the day. Both Sachi and Zanya go through torturous trials. They become stronger and better. This tale is of three, actually four in their character progression journey and I love it.

The sabotage and backstabbing are not unexpected yet still a drain on these young fighters. At times when it seems too much and they will break, they rise again and defeat their adversaries. The political intrigue would be confusing if duo authors Kit Rocha didn't make it easy to follow. I enjoyed all the twists and turns in this tale. The ending is bittersweet and what I hoped to see. Recommended to fantasy readers who root for the underdog.
