Review: Bonded in Death by J.D. Robb

How does this series after 60 books still stay fresh and intriguing? This book starts out in the oft mentioned Urban Wars. Is Author J.D. Robb predicting what will happen in the next decade? Because there seems to be quite the civil unrest occurring across the globe. Learning more about the whys and the whose involved in the Urban Wars seems to be foreshadowing a dark time for the next couple of decades, just in time for my retirement. Sigh. Fast forwarding to present day, Eve finds out she has more ties to the covert teams in the Urban Wars than she thought. She seems to be surrounded by them!

I really enjoyed the spy theme of this book. Whilst the villain was immediately identified in this story, it didn't detract from it. Learning about how an old group of friends came together during the worst time of their life is humbling. This title of this book is truly about bonds - bonds of friendship and bonds of love across time. I loved learning about the old timers and how they used to operate. Eve and Peabody meeting real life spies is a thrill for Peabody and a headache for Eve. Murders are always making Eve's life difficult. Honestly I don't know how she doesn't experience more burnout. Eve is a workhorse. She's dedicated, thorough and once she catches the scent, she doesn't stop.

All my favourite cast members show up in this murder/mystery to catch the killer bent on petty revenge. The plot weaves in and out between the past and present seamlessly. I highly recommend this to readers new and old to the In Death Series. This one is fresh and fun! This can be read as a standalone.
