Review: Dragon Marked by Donna Grant

When the one who listens and helps everyone in their dark times goes rogue, who will be there to support him? Merrill is well loved and known as the Dragon King who helps those who are feeling hopeless. For centuries, he provided the hope for his brethren to carry on. For the one day they could be reunited with their dragons. That day has come and gone. Merrill should be ecstatic. Instead, he feels lost and irrelevant. Refusing support from all those he supported, Merrill downward spirals into a destructive woman's plans.

I enjoyed this Dragon King story more than some of the others because it dealt with loss and redemption. During Merrill's soul searching time, he made poor choices and did not care about the outcomes. Witnessing his destruction and then finding his way back to his friends was satisfying. Specifically because Katla accompanies him on this journey. She too experiences severe Mea Culpa. These two are well matched in their need to right the wrongs they committed.

This book does reveal more about the "enemy" as well as create more questions. This is a complex multi-book storyarc that keeps me returning book after book. Whilst this book could theoretically be read as a standalone, I wouldn't recommend it. It isn't necessary to read all the other series in this universe, but I would recommend reading this spin-off series in order. This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who like their anti-heroes fighting on the side of right.

* I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
